If you're using Windows Vista and haven't yet upgraded to Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1), you must turn on User Account Control (A feature in Windows Vista that can help prevent unauthorized changes to your computer. It will ask you for permission or an administrator password before performing actions such as installing new software or changing settings that could affect your computer's operation.) to install and use Live Mesh.
In the Control Panel, click User Accounts, and then click User Accounts again.
In the Make changes to your user account window, click Turn User Account Control on or off. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Select the Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer check box to turn on UAC, and then click OK.
Your antivirus software might be preventing the Live Mesh software (The program you must install on your computer in order to synchronize folders with other computers and your Live Desktop.) from installing properly. Try turning it off during installation, then re-enabling it once installation is complete.
If you're using Windows Vista, you must be logged on with an administrator (A type of user account that allows complete access to the computer, including the ability to install programs and manage other user accounts.) account to enable the sync enhancements and Live Mesh Remote Desktop. To log on with an administrator account:
Click Start, and then click the arrow next to the lock button.
Click Switch User, then select a user with administrator permissions and enter the password for that account.
Note
Make sure you save any open files before switching users. If you switch to a different user and that user shuts down the computer, any unsaved changes you've made to files that are still open on your account will be lost.
If the Live Mesh software appears to have been partially installed before failing,
uninstall it, restart your computer, then reinstall.
Note
To use Live Mesh, you need a Windows Live ID (The user name and password you use to sign in to any Windows Live, MSN, or Office Live sites and services. If you have a Passport Network, Hotmail, or Windows Live Messenger account, you can use it as your Windows Live ID.) .
