Install the Windows Live OneCare safety scanner

The Windows Live OneCare safety scanner automatically checks your computer for viruses, disk fragmentation, wasted disk space, and open network ports.

To install the Windows Live OneCare safety scanner:
  1. Select Tools, and then click Options.
  2. Click File Transfer, and then click Install.
  3. Click Download to install the safety scanner.
  4. Click Done.
Notes
  • Windows Live OneCare safety scanner is the only scanner that will scan files in sharing folders and display scan results in the Windows Live Messenger sharing folders window.
  • If you install third party virus scanning software, the safety scanner will not be used to scan files for transfer.
  • If Install is inactive, see Can't install the Windows Live OneCare safety scanner for information on resolving the issue.
