Reasons for an item being rejected

Submissions to Windows Live Gallery may be rejected for various reasons. Typically, submissions are rejected because of syntax or coding errors. Submissions can also be rejected if they include inappropriate language, pornographic images, or politically insensitive material that violates the Windows Live Terms of Use agreement or the Windows Live Gallery Code of Conduct.

The following table describes some typical reasons for rejections:

Rejection condition Explanation
Could not retrieve item files The files that you included in your submission couldn't be located or retrieved.
Item has failed antivirus scan Our antivirus scans showed some problems with one or more files in your submission.
Gadget.xml not in the root directory Web gadgets must have the "gadget.xml" file in the root directory. The gadget.xml file isn't located in the root directory of your submission. For more information, see the SDK links in the developer center.
Gadget.xml references remote .js files The gadget.xml file must refer to JavaScript files that are in the package only. The gadget.xml file can't refer to any remote JavaScript files. For more information, see the SDK links in the developer center.
Unable to unzip gadget files The file that you submitted couldn't be extracted. For more information, see the SDK links in the developer center.
Item does not display in spaces After your gadget was installed, it didn't work in Windows Live Spaces. For more information, see the SDK links in the developer center.
Item does not show up in the sidebar window after installation After your gadget was installed, it didn’t appear in the Windows Sidebar.
Empty set for Live.com collection No items appear in your collection. We can't host empty collections. Add some gadgets or feeds to your submission, and then resubmit your collection.
Item does not display in Live.com After your item was added, it didn't appear in Live.com.
Custom button does not appear on toolbar After your custom button was added, it didn’t appear on the toolbar.
Item contains other language text that is not the target language Your item contains text in a language that isn't consistent with the language for which you submitted. Examine the title, summary, and description of your item to make sure that all the text appears in the appropriate language.
JavaScript errors During testing, JavaScript errors were found in your submission.
Gadget UI does not display properly After your gadget was installed, the text or graphics didn't display correctly.
Item could not be uninstalled properly After your submission was installed, it wouldn't uninstall correctly.
Miscellaneous problems There was a problem with your item. Search the Gallery forums for helpful tips before you submit your item again.
Item has violated copyright Your submission violates a copyright law.
Item has violated trademark rights Your submission violates a trademark right.
Subjective rejection Your submission didn't comply with the Windows Live Terms of Use agreement.
Missing valid signature Your Windows Vista gadget doesn't have a valid certificate or a valid digital signature associated with it.
